Recovery from Esophageal Cancer Surgery

Surgery for cancer of the esophagus is a major operation that can take seven or eight hours. It most commonly results in the replacement of the esophagus with the stomach, which is pulled up into the chest cavity and reconnected to the remaining esophagus.
