ASCO GI: Gene Therapy Shows Promise in Esophageal Cancer

 Injecting the gene encoding for tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) directly into tumors led to pathologic complete responses in a third of patients and a median survival of four years in a small study of patients with locally advanced esophageal cancer.
