ECEF Nourish to Flourish: Esophageal Cancer Nutrition Series
When you’re navigating esophageal cancer, nutrition plays a critical role in treatment and recovery—it is not an afterthought. As part of Esophageal Cancer Awareness Month, ECEF Nourish to Flourish: Esophageal Cancer Nutrition Series offers practical, expert guidance for patients and caregivers.
On Wednesday, April 29 at 7 PM (EST) / 4 PM (PST), we’re hosting a live one-hour Zoom session focused on nutrition during treatment and recovery. Dan Reilly, an ECEF board member and Stage 3 survivor, will moderate the session. He’ll be joined by Anzonette Pittet, RD, CSO, of Kaiser Permanente in Oakland, California—an oncology nutrition specialist with deep experience in survivorship and recovery.
This is an interactive session—not a lecture—designed to address real challenges. When you register, you’ll submit questions in advance so the discussion is tailored to what patients and caregivers are actually facing.
Why Nutrition Matters
Treatment often brings difficulty swallowing, inflammation, nausea, reduced appetite, and weight loss. Nutrition becomes a daily strategy to maintain strength, sustain energy, and support recovery.
What You’ll Learn
You’ll walk away with practical strategies you can use immediately, including how to:
- Eat smaller, more frequent meals
- Choose foods that are easier to tolerate
- Use liquid nutrition when needed
- Stay hydrated and manage symptoms
The session also covers when additional support, such as feeding tubes, may be needed.
What to Focus On
You’ll learn how to prioritize protein-rich foods, healthy fats, and soft, easy-to-tolerate options—while avoiding foods that may irritate the esophagus or increase discomfort.
Experts at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center emphasize the importance of personalized nutrition. For additional insight, explore MSK Research Reveals Connection Between Diet and Cancer (December 2025), which highlights how high-fiber, plant-based diets may improve outcomes. You can also review Living Beyond Esophageal Cancer, which outlines long-term nutrition strategies after treatment.
