Esophageal Cancer and GERD

Dr. Tripp Bucklely of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Round Rock joined us in the studio to tell us why looking out for signs of heartburn has to do with catching and treating this specific type of cancer. Esophageal Cancer is one of the fastest growing cancers and one of the most deadly in the U.S. According to the American Cancer Society, an estimated 17,000 new cases of esophageal cancer will be diagnosed in 2016. Incidence of Adenocarcinoma, a type of esophageal cancer linked to GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) has risen 600% in recent decades.
