Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is becoming a much more common ailment. It makes sense when you look at the typical American diet and daily patterns of eating. Other major contributors are the larger portions being consumed at home and when eating out, and the increasing number of people with growing waistlines. Several types of medications are available to treat GERD, but changing a few lifestyle habits can eliminate symptoms in many individuals without the potential side effects of the medications.
